Position Description:

A Day in the Life of a Sales Account Executive

5:30 am – Up and at ‘em. Time to get ready for another day with Your company.

6:00-6:30 am - Hop in the car (or on the train, or bike) to get to work on time.

7:00 am - Into the office and at my desk coffee in hand, ready for the day ahead.

7:00-8:00 am - Open up all the programs I need to run effciently throughout the day. Make sure I am plugged into Same time and check through Track and Trace to see how my loads are doing. Take a look at my TEs and MC7s that might have popped up overnight. Make sure I’m logged into the ACD queue so that I can take inbound calls from customers or DBLs, OCs and brokerage offices.

8:00 am-12:00 pm – It’s prime time – best time of the day to hit the phones, making as many calls as possible, and follow up with prospects and previous calls. Get a load booked at 8:30. Brand new customer that’s never moved with us. We agree on rate that SNI suggested (woohoo!). My customer faxes over the info for the load, and it’s time to create the accounts in Itrek, price out the load and use set pick-up and delivery times and input all the information for the load. The load is in and set to pending by 9 or 9:30. I update the board and ring the gong. Continue calling, booking loads, periodically checking my TEs and MC7s and fielding any inbound calls and questions from my customers.

12:00-1:00 pm - Lunchtime. It’s off to Al’s Italian Beef down the street with a few other team members. Al’s just opened and the majority of the office is a little addicted to this new place close by.

1:00 – 4:00 pm – Back at it for the afternoon. Team meeting at 1 o’clock. Learn how we as a team are doing and how the office is doing as a whole. Discuss any hot topics and set goals for beating the other teams in loads per day/week as well as winning the contests from the Specialized and International teams. Then it’s back to calling. Book several more loads, see to it that all my customers are being taken care of and toss around the Nerf ball.

4:15 pm - Ended up with 11 loads for the day – earned a $250 bonus. Add to that 21 cold calls, five more contacts, 10 solicitation calls and 12 inbound ACD calls that I updated on the board before heading home. Not a bad day.

JOB SUMMARY:
Develop and maintain client relationships by providing transportation solutions and outstanding customer service in a open office transactional selling environment. Uncapped variable incentive based on your performance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Make initial contact with customers, introduce company and our services to them and build and maintain ongoing relationships. Increases business with customers over time.
  • Makes sales calls to prospective customers through the telephone. 70 cold calls per day at the beginning to build the book of business over time.
  • Manage daily load activities through discussion with customers and carriers to ensure superior customer service.
  • Quote, negotiate price and commit transportation services on the spot with customers.
  • Be comfortable working with complex computer systems to enter our daily load details and follow-ups on a continual basis.
  • Handle incoming calls for all customers that may call in and be a valuable resource for problem resolution, load tracking and collection on invoices.

Requirements:

  • Cold calling and prospecting; be a hunter and receive great financial rewards
  • Strong work ethic, faster learner
  • Self-starter and motivated to achieve and earn bonus based on performance
  • Great phone presence and verbal skills with customers
  • Analytical and comfortable with computer and applications
  • Able to work one Saturday per month, half day

Desired Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree preferred
  • Previous experience in transportation or trucking industries desired but not mandatory
  • Previous sales experience desired but not mandatory
